My mom lives alone, 1,000 miles away. She eschews “Are you OK” pendants, but wanted a way to check in twice a day. Her world is a bit slower paced, so she proposed emailing that she’s ok twice a day, and the absence of that email would trigger a call to her and/or her care team nearby. In a faster paced world, it’s easy to miss the absence of an email, so I wrote a script that texts us if Mom doesn’t email within a set period.

This led to the concept of an automated well-being system that is more reliable than calendar reminders, automates the well-being checks keeping all who care for mom informed, and gives us the freedom to have more meaningful conversations when we can connect live on the phone. or in person.

Summaries of Mom’s status are sent to all who care about her well-being and if any concerns pop up we can jump in to confirm and help. Behind the scenes, trends are monitored and all are informed if there are patterns that suggest accelerated decline or further care is needed.

Our mission is to make life better for those we engage with. We do that by using the power of technology, telephony and artificial intelligence to improve the well-being of those living alone and those who care for them.

Verocall is much more than a powerful automated system to improve the well-being and safety of those living alone. We are also developing predictive systems that can help protect our loved ones from mishaps and fraud.

1. We honor and protect the dignity, privacy, and well-being of those living alone.
2. We are clear about our business practices, never fooling anyone. For example, we don’t pretend the calling agent is a real human, and we don’t obfuscate charges or cancellation. If you judge we are doing that anywhere, please alert us and we will address that as a priority
3. We are real people who care about others. While this is a business that needs revenue to sustain the services, we remember that the ultimate purpose is to make life better for those we engage with.

Michael Stebbins is the founder and CEO of Verocall where he created the process and integration of call-based intelligence to improve human lives.

Michael was previously CEO and founder of OMCP which grew into the world’s largest digital marketing certification standard, taught at over 1,000 universities and with over 100,000 trained to OMCP and OMCA standards in certification. While at OMCP, Michael co-authored Digital Marketing Fundamentals (Wiley 2023) and also wrote the bestselling entrepreneurship book, “Backward Entrepreneur” to help others in their entrepreneurial journey. OMCP was acquired by NISM in 2023.

Prior to OMCP, Michael was co-founder and CEO of Market Motive which reshaped the way the world learns online marketing. The company remains the leading publisher of online marketing curriculum and courses for universities, marketing group training, and individuals looking to improve a marketing career. Market Motive was acquired by Simplilearn/Blackstone in 2015.

Michael grew up in and lives in Santa Cruz, California, investing and volunteering locally.
